I Don't Get It
When I say I don't "get" it, I mostly mean that I really don't see the purpose of said item, rule, etc. or I just don't see the need for such a thing.
The first thing (and these are in no particular order) that I just don't "get" is: zombies.
Are they dead, alive, seriously injured, do they need to seek medical intervention or what? They seem to do a lot of wandering about and a lot of folks seem to fear that at any moment they might join forces to form an apocalypse. They do get a lot of media coverage through movies and television so I guess they've got that going for them.
Believe it or not, there is actually a show on A&E called Zombie House Flipping. The house, as you might guess, is in serious need of intervention and a group of people take on the challenge of rehabbing it into a livable habitat. They are not zombies. They appear to be just regular people. Regular as in they have no visible wounds, they appear to have bathed recently, and they appear to not be in need of immediate medical care.
The next thing and this is an old one: Remember when auto makers started putting video players in cars with the purpose of keeping the kids entertained in the back while mom and/or dad enjoyed a peaceful trip to the grocery store or across the country? My first thought was, "Oh, great, now parents and children won't even have to talk with each other. There will be no singing, game playing, or even threats of "I'm stopping this car!"
I was convinced then that this would be the downfall of society. For that matter, I'm still convinced about this one but that's another story.
After all, one of the best things about children and parents being together in the car is the opportunity for conversations to take place. Talking about the day on the way home from school, pointing out interesting sights while on the road, or even teaching concepts such as "reading" a stop sign or McDonald's sign can all take place in the car.
While I'm sure phones and/or IPads have taken over the DVD player in the car, the result is the same and I just don't "get" it.
Speaking of cars, I don't get this new fascination with "driver less" cars. Seriously? Why not take the money, creativity, and time that these people are putting into this misguided (that's just me talking) project and put it toward something that could benefit society? For example, making sure that all children and families have enough to eat, a safe place to sleep, and have access to medical care on a regular basis. Or, placing books in every child's hands or providing quality child care at an affordable price. I could go on, but I won't.
I think you "get" the picture.
And last, but not least, I do not "get" that the United States seems to be the only nation that allows their national anthem to be "crapped up" on a regular basis. By "crapped up" I mean people singing it who used to be able to sing but can't any more, people singing it who think they can sing but can't, and people who obviously have no knowledge of the purpose of a time signature singing it. It is not a folk song, a rock song, a rap, or a gospel song. That's just FYI.
I actually heard it being played on a fiddle the other day. Perhaps before the beginning of a cow pattie throwing contest it would be appropriate to use a fiddle but for most occasions, probably not.
As far as the US being the only country that does this, I don't have any data to back up my claim. However, I have to say I have never seen Queen Elizabeth gettin' down with a fiddle version of God Save the Queen, I'm just saying.
There are, of course, other things that I just don't "get" but I'll save those for another time.
That's it for now.
Check back later.
