One Word Resolution
It's time to create a list of resolutions for the new year of 2017. Wooo-hooo!
If you are like me, you have made the same old resolutions every year for probably your whole adult life. They include: exercise more, eat less junk food, lose weight, and be happier. Am I right?
About five years ago, I started reading books written by Gretchen Rubin. She has emerged as one of the most thought provoking and influential writers on habits and happiness. She has written, among other things, The Happiness Project, Happier at Home, and Better Than Before. I recommend them all, as they are good reads and not overly "preachy" like some "self-help" books.
Last year as I was reading her blog, she was talking about making resolutions. Now hold onto your hat because she didn't have a list of resolutions, she had one word! I was like whaaat?
Now that was something I could buy into. How easy is that to only have a one-word resolution for the whole year? As it turns out, harder than one might think.
I started thinking about what I should choose as my one word. Several came to mind and I finally settled on pampering. Yes, I decided I would "pamper" myself all year by getting facials, massages, and eating a lot of chocolate because, after all, what could be easier to keep than a resolution designed with all the emphasis on one's self? Once again, not as easy as one would think. I lasted about six months before deciding this was a pointless ( and expensive) idea and gave it up.
So this year I have been reading several blogs about simple living, intentional living, frugal living, and even Parisian living. Several of the bloggers have written on the subject of making resolutions and how to keep them. But I have decided, once again, to go the one-word route.
So far this year my word list has included:
Enough -- as in be grateful for what you have
Contentment -- as in be satisfied with your surroundings and life
Hygge--This is a Danish word that means the creation of warm, comforting and intimate atmosphere whenever people come together. I thought that sounds nice after all the hoo-ha this year.
Intention, quality, courage, slow, surprise, and hope have also been considered.
But in the end I have decided upon Faith.
Faith as in:
